Mountaineering, Climbing, and Skiing In The Canadian RockiesWilderness First Aid CoursesYamnuska Mountain Adventures hosts wilderness first aid courses by Wilderness Medical Associates, Canada (WMA). Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
Topics include: patient assessment system, body systems, environmental injuries/conditions, anaphylaxis, lifting/moving/extrication, patient carries, backcountry medicine, and CPR. Topics are covered in-depth and includes simulations. The course is recommended for outdoor professionals as well as outdoor recreationalists who lead adventure trips and those who are in the backcountry for days or weeks at a time and may have to care for a patient over an extended period. This course is hosted by Yamnuska Mountain Adventures and taught by Wilderness Medical Associates. This program is now recognized by Alberta Occupational Health & Safety as an Advanced First Aid certificate.
WFR RecertificationRe-certify your 80hr Wilderness First Responder certification in this 24hr course. This course begins at 8:30am at our office location in Canmore.
Occupational Health & Safety, Recreational First Aid ProgramsEmergency First Aid (8 hours)This introductory course covers time-sensitive, life threatening priorities. Skills include choking, AED familiarization, rescue breathing and CPR for adults and children; treatment for severe bleeding; and how to perform a secondary assessment. Courses meet Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. 2008/09:

Standard First Aid (16 hours)A comprehensive course covering all the skills taught in Emergency First Aid plus: musculoskeletal, soft tissue and head/spine injuries; heat and cold emergencies; poisoning; and medical conditions such as diabetic emergencies and convulsions.
