Our Community

ENVIRONMENT

Yamnuska is committed to sustainable travel and tourism and helping to promote the preservation of the fragile alpine areas of the world's mountains. Our programs are typically human-powered endeavors and we strive to cut our impact on the environment by supporting local and national environmental organizations.  Here are some of the ways that we have offset our footprint and are helping to educate the public with the ongoing challenge of environmental ethics:

Wind Powered PCs

The Pembina Institute, a not-for-profit environmental policy research and education organization, released its' "Wind Powered PCs" program on November 16, 2004.  This initiative hopes to power 20,000 home and business computers with wind power.  The institute estimates that if the goal of 20,000 computers is reached, an estimated 4,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced annually.

Wind Power"Canadians turn on about 14 million computers every day. By participating in the Pembina Institute's Wind Power PCs program, Canadian firms and individuals help spread the word about the benefits of low-impact renewable energy and directly support its development," says Marlo Raynolds, the Pembina Institute's Executive Director.
